Advantages Of Email

The old adage says “the acorn never falls far from the tree”, but nowadays, people seem to move about the country freely, which is why there are so many advantages of email.  The ability to communicate with your loved ones or business partners when you wish is a function that has become standard.

Computers have become a necessary piece of equipment in most lives in the past ten to fifteen years.  Different people have different uses for them; some use them for online business opportunities, others just to amuse themselves by playing online games.  Just about everyone uses the computer to communicate in some way.  Numerous social networking sites have emerged that make it very easy to connect with and communicate with friends, family members and others.  One of the most popular methods of communication occurs through electronic mail, better known to the general population as email.

While many believe that email has been around for only the past 10 years or so, it has actually been in existence since the late 1960’s.  The initial seed for the idea behind today’s Internet, a network called Arpanet was the brainchild of electronic mail.  Communication between scientists in different organizations could be much more easily accomplished if information could be sent electronically by routing small pods of data from one computer and having it be recreated on a different one.  Later, as networking on computers evolved, electronic mail became more sophisticated, allowing pictures, graphics and symbols to be included along with the text.  Currently, email accounts for an approximate 7.3 billion messages sent and received each and every day.

The advantages of email are many and varied.  As the population spreads across the face of the planet in search of employment, love and excitement, family and friends are often left behind.  A means of communicating quickly and almost “live” is desired by those who are separated from their loved ones and telephones don’t always fit the bill with time zone differences and exorbitant costs for long distance calls.  Email is the perfect solution.  The sender writes the message, adding any pictures or computer application files that may be needed, and electronically sends the message to the desired recipient.  The wonderful part is that the message will wait patiently within the recipient’s “mailbox” until that person has the opportunity and time to open the email, read and reply.

Businesses also find that email has its benefits within their networks; enabling departments to communicate with one another without the need to leave their particular work areas.  This aspect can keep their employees at their stations and maintain productivity while still providing necessary information to other departments.

Parents and grandparents find that using email to communicate is the next best thing to actually being with their offspring.  Children move away, get married and have children of their own.  Frequent travel is not always possible for the grandparent to visit their children and grandchildren, yet contact through email is a simply keyboard click away.  It is a fast method of updating, giving information and receiving information that can is offered free of charge; no postage and no other fees for sending.  There are exceptions to the rule; some Internet servers have attached membership fees, generally when offered as part of bundled services.  It is not necessary to belong to such companies, however, in order to enjoy the many advantages of email, since there are numerous servers that offer electronic mail free of charge.  Even those who do not own their own computers can generally use visit their local library or college and use computers free of charge and still access email accounts in this manner.
